The NAVA 5 Flag:
The general NAVA organizational flag would be used for all annual meetings until NAVA 11, with the exception of NAVA 3, which featured a special joint NAVA 3 / ICV 3 (Boston, Massachusetts 1969) flag design. The tradition of designing special meeting flags began with the second joint NAVA 11 / ICV 7 conference held in Washington, D.C. in 1977.

Significant Events:
- On Saturday evening a joint banquet was held in conjunction with the Heraldry Society of Canada, which was having its own annual meeting at the same time as NAVA. Dr. Whitney Smith gave the keynote speech on the "Symbols of Heads of State and Heads of Government in the British Commonwealth Countries".
- A large display of Canadian provincial and city flags brightened the meeting room where the NAVA business sessions were held. The flags were provided through the courtesy of Mr. William Milton of Canadian Textile Screen Prints.
